Teresa Lowry was born and raised in Clark County. She graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in 1978. In 1983 she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Thereafter, she became a social worker for the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services where she investigated cases of child abuse until she entered law school in 1987. She received her Juris Doctor from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon in 1990.
Ms. Lowry joined the office of the District Attorney in 1991. She prosecuted cases on a general litigation team for three years. In 1994 she became a member of the Special Victim’s Unit where she specialized in the prosecution of child sexual abuse cases. She was appointed a Special Prosecutor in White Pine County on a child homicide case and Washoe County on a child welfare case. In 2003 she advanced to Chief of the Juvenile Delinquency and Child Welfare prosecution teams.
She is a member of the Children’s Advocacy Center Policy Governing Board, founding partner of the Kids Court School program and board member of PSEC Nevada (protecting sexually exploited children). She served as Vice Chair of the Southern Nevada Child Fatality Task Force from 2006-2008 and has been a member of the Clark County Child Death Review Team for over a decade.
In 2008 District Attorney David Roger appointed Ms. Lowry the Assistant District Attorney responsible for the Family Support, Juvenile and Child Welfare Divisions.
