Roles & Responsibilities of the Federal Lands Team
The Federal Lands Team provides ongoing coordination with the six federal agencies that administer land in Clark County. Of the 5.2 million acres within the County, about 89 percent is federally administered by the Bureau of Land Management (2.9 million acres), National Park Service (587,000 acres), US Fish and Wildlife Service (493,000 acres), US Air Force (327,000 acres jointly with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and 13,500 on Nellis Air Force Base), USDA Forest Service (252,000 acres), and the Bureau of Reclamation (50,700 acres).
The Federal Lands Team monitors all actions on federal land, which may impact the environment, urban development, the economy, and the overall quality of life in Clark County. This includes: administration of the Federal Lands Element to the Clark County Comprehensive Plan, implementation of the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act of 1998 and amendments, assisting in the development and implementation of Federal land use/management plans, coordination on NEPA related actions, development and implementation of Interagency Agreements, privatization of federal lands, resource and information sharing, etc.
Federal Lands Management
The Federal Lands Team provides ongoing coordination with federal land management agencies to monitor all planning and NEPA related actions that occur on federal lands within Clark County (e.g., Bureau of Land Management for non-federally designated lands and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area; US Forest Service for the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area; National Park Service for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area; and the US Fish and Wildlife Service for the Desert National Wildlife Refuge). This coordination with the various government agencies has produced the Clark County Federal Lands Element.
