POLICY SUMMARY BY ELEMENT

POPULATION ELEMENT POLICIES

Estimating the Current Population

 POP 1.1

 Clark County will continue to cooperate with and support Census Bureau functions that enhance local and state programs.

 POP 1.2

 Clark County should investigate the costs and benefits of conducting a local "mid-term" census or other means to update socio-economic data before the year 2010.

 POP 1.3

 To ensure equitable distribution of funds, Clark County will continue to cooperate with the cities and State Demographer to review state estimates of the County population and provide comments as appropriate.

 POP 1.4

 The Department of Comprehensive Planning will continue to cooperate with other entities to generate and improve annual population estimates based on County Assessor land use data, per Nevada Administrative Code.

 POP 1.5

 The Department of Comprehensive Planning will present population estimates to the Board of County Commissioners annually.

Forecasting the Future Population

 POP 2.1

 Clark County will continue to review state-generated forecasts of the County population and provide comments as appropriate.

 POP 2.2

 Clark County will continue to cooperate with other local and regional entities to produce long-term County forecasts annually.

 POP 2.3

 The Department of Comprehensive Planning will present population forecasts to the Board of County Commissioners annually.

 POP 2.4

 Clark County Departments and other internal agencies will use population forecasts accepted by the Board of County Commissioners in fiscal, capital, and program planning.

Data Support and Cooperation

 POP 3.1

 The Department of Comprehensive Planning will continue to develop and improve programs to generate demographic products, which have value and utility for Clark County, as well as its partners and customers.

 POP 3.2

 To provide a platform for regional cooperation and sharing of development and demographic information the Department of Comprehensive Planning will work in partnership with other local entities to develop and maintain population programs and applications such as GILIS and PPEPP.

 POP 3.3

 Clark County will continue to cooperate on regional demographic and data sharing issues through the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition.
