Marriage License Inquiry Instructions:

1.     Click on the link at the bottom of this page to open the AiLIS Public  Inquiry page for the Office of the County Clerk .

2.   To search by names, begin by clicking on the Marriage Records tab. Enter the Last Name and First Name into the appropriate box for the groom or bride.   If using the name of the bride, use the last name she used prior to the wedding and not the married name.   When entering the name, please use the party with the most unusual name, as more common names take longer to search.

Note: Licenses issued prior to October of 2006, may need to be searched by entering BOTH the last name and the first name in the Last Name box.  Do not use a comma to separate the last and first name. Example - John Smith would be entered: Smith John

3.   Indicate whether it is to be an Exact or Like name search.   It is recommended that Like name search is selected rather than Exact because it is not uncommon to forget the exact name as it was entered on the marriage license.  Note that the more narrow the search, the faster the response time.

4.   Enter a date range for the period to search in the From Date and To Date boxes.   If the date the license was issued is known, use that date for both boxes.   The larger the date range, the longer it will take to search.   NOTE: THE DATE THE LICENSE WAS ISSUED MUST BE USED, NOT THE DATE OF THE MARRIAGE.

5.    Once all of the information is entered, click on the Search button.

6.    Entries for the parameters given will be displayed.

7.    Click on the appropriate document number for more detailed information.   The actual document is not available for viewing, only the index information is.

8.  The General tab can also be used following the same instructions detailed in 1 - 7 above.

The data displayed is for computer indexing only. The Clark County Clerks Office Marriage Bureau does not assume any liability as to the accuracy of the data produced and published.

A search for a marriage license may also be made by the marriage license or Instrument #.

      1.  To search by license #, begin by clicking on the Instrument tab at the top of the page.
Enter  the appropriate number into either the Instrument #  or Legacy # box.   The
Instrument # is a 17 digit number assigned to the marriage license on the date it was
            issued.
The first four digits are the year.  The next four digits are the month and day, the
remaining nine digits are the number assigned to that license.

                                          Example: 20080531000009495

Older marriage licenses issued prior to October 2006 were issued a Legacy # consisting of
6 digits preceded by the letter
C or D.  Example:  D000451

       2.  Once the information is entered, click on the Search button.

page.

            license records are accessed.

      3.   To do that, click on the + sign next to General to expand the selection, then select the box
for Marriage Records.   (Note:   If the General selection is not able to be viewed, click on

Marriages licenses are indexed as they are issued, so they appear online immediately.   A marriage license is not verification or proof of marriage.   A marriage license is issued to allow individuals to be married.   In order to verify if a marriage has taken place or to obtain proof of marriage, contact the County Recorders Office.

Note ** Marriage licenses are indexed on-line from 1988 through the present. For inquiries about marriages prior to 1988 or for more in-depth information, visit one of our office locations to view the archived records.  A search or copy request can also be mailed to us along with appropriate fees.  For information on how to make such a request, click here.
