Thousands of unwanted dogs, cats and other pets are euthanized every year in Southern Nevada . A major cause of the problem is unregulated breeding. The best way to limit the number of unwanted animals in our community is to spay and neuter your pets, including offspring. Clark County currently provides grant funds to non-profit organizations for the sterilization of dogs and cats. This program operates year round and information on current grant recipients is available from the Animal Control Business Office at 455-8178.
In addition, anyone who breeds or sells pets in Clark County is required to comply with pet licensing laws.
A pet fanciers permit costs $25 annually and requires a scheduled inspection of your property by an Animal Control regulation officer. Permit holders must limit the number of unsterilized animals kept on their property to no more than six adult dogs, age one year or more, and 12 cats, eight months or older. Permit holders also are required to include their pet fanciers permit number in display advertisements offering dogs and cats for sale.
