If disaster strikes, pets generally are not allowed in public shelters with the exception of service animals. A key to being prepared for any emergency is to have plan in place ahead of time to ensure the safety of all family members, including your pets.
If you are asked to evacuate your home and you have pets, its best to take your pets with you to lodging facilities that accept pets.
