Southern Nevadas drought plan contains three stages: Drought Watch, Drought Alert and Drought Emergency. The stages of drought are based on several factors, including Lake Meads water level and the amount of snowfall in the Rocky Mountains. Water-use restrictions become more stringent as the drought worsens and the need to conserve water grows.
The Las Vegas Valley Water District provides water to most Clark County residents. The countys seven-member County Commission serves as the Las Vegas Valley Water Districts Board of Directors.
