M.W. Schofield
Clark County Assessor
M. W. Schofield, Clark County Assessor, is a native Las Vegan. In 1993 he was appointed by the Clark County Board of Commissioners to fill the unexpired term of Assessor and subsequently was elected to this position in 1994. He was re-elected to this position in 1998 and again in 2006. Serving his fourth term as County Assessor, he continues his commitment in making the Clark County Assessor's Office the best in the Country.
Schofield began his career in the Assessor's Office in 1977 and obtained his certification as a Nevada State Certified Appraiser. He served four years as the appointed Assistant County Assessor from 1989 to 1993.
Schofield was twice elected as Clark County School Trustee. He ran unopposed in his second term. While on the School Board, he was President for two terms, Vice Chair for one term, Chairman of the Board's Policy Committee, and a member of the Clark County School District's Strategic Planning Committee.
In 1997 the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) awarded the Clark County Assessor’s Office the Distinguished Jurisdiction Award. In presenting this annual award, considered IAAO’s highest, the President congratulated the Clark County Assessor’s Office for "Being a component of a model assessment system and as contributing to the achievement of the goal of equality in property taxation." After receiving the award Schofield stated, "The international recognition that this honor brings our Office is due to the committed teamwork and dedicated effort put forth by our associates in the Clark County Assessor’s Office. My thanks to you all for your continued outstanding professionalism and your efforts to make this the best Assessor’s Office in the nation."
In 1998, IAAO awarded our office the Distinguished Research and Development Award, presented for our Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) Research Project. The 1998 Cashman Good Government Finalist Award was presented to the Office from the Nevada Taxpayer’s Association.
In 2001, the Nevada Taxpayer's Association presented our office a Special Award For Continuing Excellence, for our continuing efforts to cut costs and improve customer service.
In 2004, under Schofield's leadership, the Assessor's Office took a lead role in proposing legislation for a property tax cap to protect taxpayers from large tax increases due to the tremendous increase in property values. This effort ultimately led to the legislature passing a law for property tax abatement.
Schofield is affiliated with the following professional and community organizations: International Association of Assessing Officers, Nevada Taxpayers Association, Past President of Nevada Assessor's Association, American Society for Public Administration and Seniors United. He is a graduate of Las Vegas High School and attended Utah State University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Michele W. Shafe
Assistant Director Clark County Assessor's Office
Michele Shafe is Assistant Director of Assessment Services in the Clark County Assessor's Office, a position she has held since 1997. She oversees the Customer Service division, Systems Administration, and the Business Office within the Assessor's Office. Shafe holds a Property Tax Appraiser Certificate in both real and personal property from the State of Nevada. Before joining the Assessor's Office in 1996, Shafe was a Senior Financial Analyst for the Clark County Finance Department, and was with the Finance Department for over nine years.
Shafe is active in the Girl Scouts of Frontier Council, currently serving as the Board of Directors' Executive Vice President, after having served four years as Member-at- Large on the Board of Directors and five years on the Board Development Committee. She has also been active with the Junior League of Las Vegas, having served two years on the Board of Directors and four years as Sustaining Advisor to the Fundraising Development Council. Shafe served as the Vice President of the San Rafael Homeowner Association's Board of Directors for eight years. She is a member of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Las Vegas Class of 2001.
Professional affiliations include the International Association of Assessing Officers, Nevada Assessor's Association, American Society for Public Administration, and the Nevada Government Finance Officers Association.
Shafe is a longtime Las Vegan who was educated in the Clark County School District and was Salutatorian at Chaparral High School. She went on to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees.
Rocky Steele
Assistant Director Clark County Assessor's Office
Rocky Steele is an Assistant Director of Assessment Services in the Clark County Assessor's Office. He has been in his current position since July of 2000. He oversees Parcel Data Systems, and the Appraisal Division within the Assessor's Office. Steele is a State Certified Property Tax Appraiser in both real and personal property and has worked in the Office since 1990. Prior to joining the Assessor's Office, Steele was employed in a family operated blue print company.
Steele's professional affiliations include the International Association of Assessing Officers, Nevada Assessor's Association, and American Society for Public Administration.
Steele was born, raised and educated in Colorado and is a graduate of Colorado State University. Steele has lived in Las Vegas Since 1988.
