What is the FORUM?

This is a mediation program offered to inmates and their families to assist in the reuniting of families after incarceration.

The FORUM program provides the opportunity to have a structured face-to-face meeting in a secure, safe environment, in order to facilitate a process of healing and preparation for release.

Who makes referrals for the VORP?

  • Typically, the inmate will request referral from their case worker.
  • Case workers may suggest to inmates that they should take a look at the program.
  • And, families may refer themselves.

What is the FORUM process?

  1. A confidential interview is conducted with the inmate (or family member requesting referral).
  2. A determination is made to accept the case.
  3. Selected individuals (family or community members) are confidentially interviewed by mediators.
  4. Second interviews may or may not be necessary.
  5. A mediation is conducted with those choosing to participate.
  6. A release plan is written if desired.
  7. A follow up meeting is conducted 4-6 weeks after the mediation.

How much does the program cost?

There is no charge for FORUM mediations.
