Welcome to Laughlin, Nevada. For most people, Laughlin, just 90 miles south of Las Vegas, evokes images of casinos on the river reflecting bright lights. Truly fortunate are those who have discovered the homespun side of our community and its award winning activity center, new parks, schools, recreational opportunities and a variety of family services and enjoyable events. Most important are its people from all over the world who are friendly and civic-minded.
Laughlin is an unincorporated township within Clark County, lying on the borders of Arizona and California and along the Colorado River. The town is governed by the Clark County Board of Commissioners receiving advice from the appointed Laughlin Town Advisory Board. The Town Advisory Board meets regularly at 1:30 p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month and on the last Tuesday when there are zoning issues to be discussed. The town has a full-time Town Manager, Jacquelyne Brady, and staff. It is home to almost 9,000 residents and its principle growth comes from tourism created by the Laughlin resorts and the production of hydroelectricity created by Davis Dam.
Laughlin's ability to attract up to five million visitors a year allows the area to keep pace with the rest of Nevada in generating tax revenues. Tourism is the primary contributor for services and assistance to the residential community. More than a quarter of a billion dollars have been invested by Clark County in water and wastewater facilities, roads, parks, public facilities, and other infrastructure needs. Soon, another $35 million in recreational assets in the forms of trails, trail heads, an impressive day use park area and fishing nodes along the river will be added to Laughlin's landscape. The area is known as the North Reach of the Colorado River Heritage Greenway Trail system and greatly expands outdoor adventures. The main thoroughfare, Casino Drive, is currently undergoing more than $15 million in complete rehabilitation.
An aggressive implementation schedule for Laughlin's economic development strategy is being pursued. It will allow for diverse uses of the township's newly acquired 9,000 acres, secured specifically for future residential and commercial growth. Town leaders are also currently working on improved roadway access into and within Laughlin. Two such projects are Needles Highway reconstruction between Laughlin and I-40 in Needles, CA and the U.S. 95 South widening from Las Vegas. The process to complete a second bridge between Laughlin and Bullhead City, Arizona is also well underway.
The VISION of the Town Manager's Office is to develop a team of committed, professional individuals who will work with the community in creating responsive and innovative government that enhances the lives of the people in Laughlin, Nevada.
The MISSION of the Town Manager's Office is to serve the people of Laughlin with progressive and responsible management and provide community services through collaborative ventures that support the mission and goals of the Board of County Commissioners, County Manager and citizens.
