Summer

Most people think nothing of putting their dogs in the back of their pickup truck or car and hitting the road to the lake or just shopping. What many people don't realize is that the summer heat can be devastating to a pet. Many animals are left in the sun with no protection. The lack of shade in the back of a pickup truck can cause heat prostration for the animals, or cause the animal to abandon the vehicle in search of shade or water. Animals that are left inside a vehicle can be subjected to temperatures that can soar well over 180°. Enclosed areas during the summer months can become stifling and kill a pet in a matter of minutes.

Dogs and cats do not have the ability to perspire or sweat; instead they have to respire or pant. When temperatures are high the animal can't cool down, and could die or suffer irreversible brain damage. So even though your pet enjoys being with you during the summer months think about the conditions and consequences. The animal will thank you for it.
