Residents wanting to learn how to prepare themselves and their families for emergencies can seek advice from experts at a special forum on Thursday, Sept. 14 , at 7 p.m. in the Clark County Commission Chambers.
Clark County and several community partners are sponsoring the “Ask the Experts Emergency Preparedness Forum” as part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Preparedness Month. The goal is to educate residents about steps they can take to be prepared for any type of emergency that could occur in the valley from power outages to a disease outbreak. Public attending the forum will be invited to seek advice from the following local experts about emergency preparedness:
· Jim O’Brien – Clark County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Director
· Richard Brenner – Clark County Fire Department Hazardous Materials Coordinator
· Lt. Mike McCrimon – Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. Homeland Security Bureau Emergency Manager
· Jane Shunney – Southern Nevada Health District Public Heath Preparedness Manager
· Scott Emerson – Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross Director of Emergency Services
· Dave Broxterman – Clark County School District Facilities Division Administrative Manager
The forum will open with a brief overview about local emergency management efforts. Mitch Fox, host of the Vegas PBS series “Nevada Week in Review,” will then host a question and answer session with participating experts. Information about the forum and emergency preparedness is posted in a special section on the county’s website at www.accessclarkcounty.com. The forum will be videotaped for rebroadcast on Clark County Television (CCTV) cable Channel 4 and Vegas PBS. Channel 4 is scheduled to air the forum on the following dates and times: Monday, Sept. 18, 5 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 19, 7:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Sept. 20, 3 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 21, 5 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 23, 10 a.m.; Sunday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m. Vegas PBS will air the program on Channel 10 on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m.
